Description

A simple recipe for homemade cranberry sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (12 ounces) fresh cranberries, rinsed and picked over
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. Combine cranberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
  4. Stir in orange juice and orange zest.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, you can mash some of the cranberries with the back of a spoon while simmering.
  • This sauce can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
