Description
Create personalized candles with essential oils as thoughtful gifts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound soy wax flakes
- 1/4 cup essential oil blend (e.g., lavender, peppermint, citrus)
- Candle wicks
- Wick stickers or hot glue
- Candle containers (jars, tins)
- Pouring pot
- Thermometer
- Stirring utensil
Instructions
- Prepare your containers by attaching a wick to the bottom center of each using a wick sticker or a dab of hot glue.
- Melt the soy wax flakes in a pouring pot over medium heat, stirring occasionally until fully liquid. Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature, aiming for around 185°F (85°C).
- Remove the wax from heat and let it cool slightly to approximately 135°F (57°C).
- Add your chosen essential oil blend to the melted wax and stir gently for about 2 minutes to ensure it is well incorporated.
- Carefully pour the scented wax into your prepared containers, leaving about 1/2 inch of space at the top.
- Center the wick in each candle and secure it upright using a wick holder or pencils laid across the top of the container.
- Allow the candles to cool and solidify completely, which can take several hours or overnight.
- Trim the wicks to about 1/4 inch before lighting.
Notes
- Experiment with different essential oil combinations for unique scents.
- Ensure good ventilation when working with essential oils.
- Allow candles to cure for at least 24-48 hours for optimal scent throw.
